Batam City Highlights

We woke up late on the 2nd day and met up with Susanto(tour guide as recommended by Takume).

We took his Toyota and headed for the Kelong for seafood!Along the way, we passed by Bareilang Bridge, one of the famous landmarks in Batam. The sea was very blue-green and there were many islands. Susanto mentioned the total number of islands to us but I forgot.I was quite overwhelmed as I recalled.

And so we arrived at the Kelong, greeted by the variety of seafood. We can choose the kind of fish, crab, prawns that we want and they will proceed to prepare the dish. The meal was satisfying with a refreshing coconut and excellent seaview. We had flowercrab and kangkong again. Most of the food we ate in Batam are spicy but is quite shiok! The price was reasonable and is definitely worth a try!

After kelong, we moved off to see if there are any dragonfruits to buy. There are many dragonfruit plantations along the way but too bad..the fruits were sold off so quickly that by noon time..we cant purchase any.I rememebered having dragon fruit in HCM and that was totally different from what I ate in Singapore!..this time round, we didnt buy any but we came across somewhere near the Barelang Bridge and Susanto bought a few back~

And so after that..we went to Megamall, a shopping mall near to Batam Centre Ferry. This mall is quite big to shop and offers cheap sports items. I bought a pair of trekking shoes there which I think is quite value for money~

moved off to Nagoya Hills and before that..a stop @ the Polo Shop..i have heard indonesia sell cheap polo shirts..and are authentic..so we decide go take a look as recommended by Susanto..okie..they got quite huge variety but the price is somewhat similar to what is sold in the departmental stores in Batam City..My friend say those sold at Bandung of Indonesia is much much cheaper..haha..maybe will pay a visit there next time when visit Indonesia..hear say sports items and apparels also very cheap there cuz is the production site hmmmmm...

settled our dinner after much shopping at A&W..very full act so didnt eat much..dear went to buy some local produce for his parents..it was raining still..weather not very good act..

act there r many water sports that u can try..provided weather is good like parasailing, jetski, cableski..hmm but we didnt cuz raining..however we manage to see highlights of Batam from this trip which is never expected..i onli tot is jus a sea and the resort..and seafood..that's all haha..well..

will like to visit other parts of Indonesia in the near future!
a great getaway to Batam this time round =)

  1. do you know that there are villages in the outlying islands (along the bareilang bridge)? these are the very poor malay villages and the children there spent their time playing with whatever they can find.

i was there with my church on a mission trip. it was a mixed feeling for me when i saw the kids. they are contended with so little yet they should deserve much more.

but you are right. the sea water on that stretch is so clear. you won't imagine finding it in batam.
